The promise of a new school year reminds us
As we start the new school year, we are ready for the challenges of helping our students graduate. Many are several years behind their peers in credits earned and we are grateful that our teachers specialize in helping them catch up. Students like Bryant, who God entrusted in our care.
After Bryant’s father passed away, he went to live with his grandparents. When that didn’t work out, he was shifted around to various foster placements and was even adopted. But Bryant’s traumatic past and emotional challenges created difficult behavioral problems. He was defiant, and verbally and physically aggressive.
Bryant felt lost and had little hope.
He came to the Children’s Home to live, and the minute he walked into the hallways at our James E. Davis School, he told us that he felt a sense of calm. “They believed in me, but one of the most important things they did was to lift me up and made sure my ‘head space’ was in the right place.”
One of his teachers said, “He’s been through a great deal in his life, but all we needed to do was to give him encouragement and the chance to learn at his own pace. He excelled in all his classes and made straight As most of the semesters.”
Bryant is now attending college!
Bryant confessed, “I always knew I was smart. I just needed a better place to learn. I will always remember how my teachers cared and were so excited when I graduated in May. I would have to say that going to the Children’s Home school really changed my direction. And now, I’m moving into my college dorm. Unbelievable!”
That’s our mission and why you are so important to us.
Now Bryant knows exactly what he wants to do in life—he wants to be a social worker: “I want to help people, especially kids that have grown up like me. I am lucky because now I have a good support system. Some kids don’t have that.”
The part you play is just as important as our teachers. The prayers and financial support we receive from faithful partners like you help make it happen. You’re giving students like Bryant a chance that they haven’t found anywhere else.
Please partner with us by making a gift today.
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.” — Hebrews 6:10
